Summary: What a great album !!!
Comment: This is one of the strongest rock albums I have heard during 2008.
Good rocking songs, great vocals, good guitar work and all in all a fabulous album.
I know the first song states that you won't hear this song "On the radio" because Thunder don't get played on that medium but . . . I heard "Turn left at California" on Planet Rock and just had to get this album. It gives me faith that in 2008 there are still good honest bands playing well good honest rock music with no frills and no pretensions. Up until I heard this I thought that "Black Ice" would be my favourite rock album of the year but this album has rapidly supplanted the AC/DC album as my favourite of the year
Highly recommended for rock fans everywhere

Summary: Another excellent Thunder album
Comment: Having been a Thunder fan for over 18 years I have come to expect nothing but the best from this band, and they have produced yet another fantastic album. 'Bang' is up there with their best albums: 'Backstreet Symphony' and 'The Magnificent Seventh' and in my opinion Thunder have never made a bad album. As all Thunder fans will know, these guys are true professionals; they have mastered the art of rock music, they know what pleases their fans and keep making great records. They are also one of the best live bands out there. They have never had the recognition they deserve in the music press, and the first song on the album 'On The Radio' is their response to this. All the songs on this record sound like potential singles. The stand out tracks for me are 'Retribution','Watching Over You' and 'Candy Man', but there are no fillers on this album. If you are a rock fan and you haven't heard much of Thunder's work, you should buy this album, and then you'll probably end up buying all their albums! That is how good it is. Don't take my word for it - have a listen! I note that they are categorized as 'Heavy rock', personally I don't think this fits Thunder's style of music, so don't be put off if you like more soft or melodic songs, Thunder have produced many great rock ballads and they have a more bluesy rock style. There is something in their back catalogue for everyone!

Summary: Could Have Done Better
Comment: Robert Johnson's Tombstone was a return to form for a band that had come so near to destruction and as an album, was very nearly perfect. Never pushing the envelope, but providing exactly what you always expected in the form of rock steady songs interspersed with more thoughtful numbers.
This though, while very likeable, is less immediate and requires a fair number of spins before you form a real impression of the contents. That said though, it is an album of two halves with the first 6 songs creating far less impact than the last 6, indeed, I find that if you play this album in "random play" on the cd player that it actually improves the "listenability" overall.....maybe it was intentional, maybe it was not, but as it stands, for me, only half the album comes across at the level one expects from Thunder!
Doubtless the band will highlight the better numbers from the album on their upcoming tour and hopefully, this will be culled from the latter half of the album.....!

Summary: ...Classic blues-rockers back with a, um, bang...
Comment: I'm so old that I recall not just Thunder precursors Terraplane, but Terraplane precursors Nuthin' Fancy. Fortunately, unlike me, Thunder mainstays Danny Bowes and Luke Morley just seem to get better and better with the passing of time.
Readers outside the UK might not realise the place that Thunder hold in the hearts of British rock fans, but since the band returned from a brief hiatus in 2002, they've filled the role of best loved British rock band with a series of fine albums and, more importantly, fabulous live shows.
For those who don't know Thunder released their debut Back Street Symphony way back in 1990, and had a string of British hit singles and albums right through the nineties. With Luke Morleys writing allied to the amazing voice of Danny Bowes they've specialised in a blues-rock brand of music which was hugely unfashionable then (and now), following in the traditions of bands like Bad Company.
This is their ninth studio album, following on the heels of the excellent Robert Johnson's Tombstone release of 2006 and sees them, thankfully, sticking to what the do best. Right from the opening track, "On The Radio"', they hit the mark, with a punchy, rocking diatribe against the radio stations and TV channels that have resolutely ignored them over the years. I think it's safe to say that the plethora of swearing will ensure this one misses as well!
They take a look at Hurricane Katrina on "Stormwater", show how a power ballad should be done on "Retribution", and revisit the scene of many a rock band crime on the harmonica enhanced, bluesy, "Have Mercy". Although they do it without resorting to the direct approach Motorhead took on "Jailbait"! There's plenty of tunes that will get the fans clapping and stomping along to on their regular UK tours with "Candy Man" a dead cert for a live outing. After all, you can never have too many "na-na-na's".
Actually, all the ballads are top notch with "Watching Over You" and the acoustic "One Bullet" almost on a par with the aforementioned "Retribution". They show that they still know how to turn up the amps on "Miracle Man" before taking a left turn into the world of US west coast rock on the rootsy, um, "Turn Left at California" before the album goes crashing out on another big rocker, "Honey".
Thunder are one of the great classic rock bands, who've been sadly undervalued throughout their career, despite never having made a bad album. Bang! one stands up as one of their best, so if you've never given them a chance before, this is as good as it gets. If you're already a fan, then this one will have you in raptures.

Summary: Why aren't Thunder massive??????
Comment: Yet another brilliant album, from Thunder.
I have to say that their recent albums are much better than their earlier albums (although I do still love back street symphony).
Can't wait to see them on tour again, as they're fantastic live too!
